How to Get More Dog Grooming Appointments: 9 Things That Work

You do not need more traffic. You need more of the right people to call, and then to book. Here are the nine things that fill a grooming calendar, in the order we would do them. Most cost nothing but time.

  • Groomers only
  • 7 grooming businesses, 198 pages built
  • $297/month, cancel anytime
  • 24 → 77 calls in a month, one client

Key takeaways

  • Most new grooming clients come from one place: a Google search for a groomer near them.
  • Your Google profile, a page per service, and a price range do most of the work.
  • Rebooking at pickup and a cancellation list fill more gaps than any ad.
  • Ask every client for a review. New reviews matter as much as the total.

1. Finish your Google Business Profile

Someone in your town decides their dog needs a groom. They search. Google shows a map with three businesses. That map is where most new grooming clients come from. So this is first.

Set the main category to grooming. List every service by the name a customer would use. Get the hours right. Add photos of dogs you groomed this month, not in 2019. If you are mobile, hide the address and set your real service areas. This takes an afternoon. It is the fastest win on this list. Here is exactly what we check on a profile.

2. Give every service its own page

One page called “Services” cannot show up for deshedding, and puppy first groom, and cat grooming. It is not really about any of them. One page per service can. That is how people search, so that is how the site should be built.

Each page says what the service involves, who it suits, how long it takes, and what it costs. Two hundred honest words beat two thousand vague ones. More on what a grooming website needs.

3. Show a price, or at least a range

Hiding prices to “get them to call” mostly gets them to call the groomer who shows a range. Grooming prices change with size and coat. Say that, then give the range. A visitor who cannot find any number goes back to Google.

4. Make your phone number one tap

Most of your visitors are on a phone. Often with one hand, often next to a dog. If calling you means copying a number, some of them just do not. Your number should be a link, in the header, and in a bar that stays on screen. Test it on a real phone.

5. Ask every client for a review at pickup

Two profiles, same town. One has 41 reviews and the newest is a year old. The other has 23, with four from this month. The second one gets the call. New reviews matter as much as the total.

Ask at pickup, in the thirty seconds after they see the dog. Same sentence every time. Then text them your review link so the ask survives the drive home. Ask everyone. Never offer anything for it. How the review system works.

6. Rebook before they leave

The cheapest appointment you will ever get is the next one from a client who is standing in front of you. “Same time in six weeks?” fills more of your calendar than any ad. Make it the last thing you say at every pickup.

7. Keep a cancellation list

Every time you book someone two weeks out, ask: “Want a text if a spot opens sooner?” Most say yes. When a cancellation comes in, you send one text to that list. The gap is filled in an hour. More on filling last-minute openings.

8. Turn one dog into two

Dog owners know other dog owners. A card at pickup that says “bring a friend, you both get a free nail trim” is enough. Keep it simple, one reward, both sides. Referral ideas that work for groomers.

One rule

Rewards for referrals are fine. Rewards for reviews are not. Offering anything for a Google review breaks Google's rules and can get reviews removed.

9. Read your numbers once a month

Ask every new client how they found you, and write it down. Your Google profile shows how many calls came from it. Google Search Console shows what people searched to find your site. Once a month, look at all three. Then fix the one thing that is costing you the most.

Carlos, one Tongfluence client. Google counted the calls. The reports are above. The appointments are a rough count from his booking software.
How this was counted

Monthly totals: 77 ÷ 24 = 3.2×. February is 3 days shorter. Per day, calls went from 0.86 to 2.48, or 2.9×. Nothing is left out.

What about ads?

Ads work. They bring appointments this week, and they stop the day you stop paying. Do the nine things above first. They make ads cheaper, because the person who clicks lands on a page that convinces them. Then, if you want appointments sooner, Google ads and Facebook and Instagram ads both have a place.

FAQ

Common questions

What is the fastest way to get more dog grooming appointments?

Rebook every client at pickup, and text your cancellation list when a spot opens. Both work this week. For new clients, finishing your Google Business Profile is the fastest fix. It is free and changes show up within weeks.

How long does it take to see more appointments from Google?

Profile changes can show up in a few weeks. Website changes take longer. It is about 28 days after launch before there is enough search data to read, and a few months to see the trend.

Do I need a new website to get more grooming clients?

Not always. If your site is fast, has a real page for each service, and has a tap-to-call number, keep it and fix what is missing. If it is one page or a slow builder site, a rebuild is usually faster.

Should I post on social media to get more grooming appointments?

Social media keeps current clients close and shows off your work. It is poor at reaching the person who decided this morning that their dog needs a groom. That person opens Google Maps. Do the search side first.
